Titus the Dog: My Webpage Archives
Greetings
and Salutations! This is Titus the Dog checking in. Here are some older
posts from my webpage, so you can be informed about my past exciting adventures.
Spring 2011 News:
March 15, 2011 Although Spring has not officially started, My Family and I are having a great Early Spring;
lots of fun and exciting stuff is happening! We added a number of roses to our gardens - bareroot roses we
ordered from Jackson & Perkins in Hodges, South Carolina: three Don Juan climbing roses, three Red Sky Delight shrub roses, and
three Souvenir de la Malmaison antique roses. Daddy did a great job helping Mommy plant the roses ... he dug all nine
holes, under my supervision, of course. Daddy also installed two pretty Fleur de Lis Arbors in the front yard,
each has a gate. But wait, Daddy had four more holes to dig recently ... This year Mommy is volunteering as a
Rose Test Panel Member for our friends at Jackson & Perkins. As a test panel member, she received four bareroot
test roses (we do not know what kind of roses they are), and a series of comment sheets and evaluation forms to complete
between planting time and the end of this summer. Later this year, Mommy will submit her comments and evaluation forms;
one of the test roses may be selected as a future Rose of the Year®! We planted the four test roses on
Sunday, February 20. They have all come out of dormancy and have started to grow. Mommy loves growing roses;
she is really excited about being a test panel member. I will keep you posted on this Great Gardening Adventure. This past weekend, we freshened up our herb garden with some great new plants:
basil, flat leaf parsley, lemon thyme, lime thyme, zucchini, and crook neck squash. These herbs and veggies compliment the
other herbs that are already growing in our gardens, including chives, English thyme, variegated thyme, lemon balm,
lemon verbena, numerous types of mint, Greek oregano, marjoram, Italian oregano, flat leaf oregano,
and rosemary. So far, the squirrels and other critters have left the new plantings alone. Thanksgiving News: November 27, 2010 My Family and I had a wonderful Thanksgiving. For Thanksgiving dinner, Mommy ordered another
great fresh Willie Bird Turkey - a 14 to 16 pounder - from her favorite grocery store, Diablo Foods in Lafayette, California.
She slow roasted the turkey in the oven, flavored with fresh herbs and citrus; I hung out in the kitchen, taking
in the great turkey smell. The turkey was so tender, it fell apart when Mommy tried to remove it from the roaster ...
even the dark meat completely fell off the leg bone. Yum! We had a quiet Thanksgiving dinner at home, with
fresh roast turkey, Mommy's world famous garlic and parsley smashed potatoes, roasted green beans flavored with bacon, roasted
fresh organic carrots, and wonderful au jus. I enjoyed my plate of turkey and au jus. Dessert was Mommy's
flakey no-sugar-added apple pie, and we had some great wine to go with dinner. The
day after Thanksgiving, I had a great 6-month physical examination with Dr. Louisa Asseo, DVM at Hillcrest Veterinary Hospital. I passed with flying colors! I also purchased two tubes of my favorite
poultry flavored C.E.T. canine toothpaste, and had my nails trimmed. I do not like having my nails trimmed,
but I tolerate it. On Sunday, we are going to Sloat Garden Center in Danville, California ... our favorite garden center ... to pick out a fresh
Christmas tree, and maybe two. I get to go along, to supervise the Christmas tree selection, and help pick out a few
things for our Winter gardens. I love going to Sloat's! Then Daddy will start getting the special Department
56 Christmas displays set up throughout the house. I will help supervise that project, too! Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Summer
2010 News: August 2010 My Family and I are having a great Summer. This Summer
has been the coolest Summer in memory. I have really enjoyed the cooler weather, which has made for great long walks
and hikes. I recently had a great off-leash outing at Point Isabel Regional Shoreline Park, a beautiful 23-acre off-leash dog park in Richmond, California.
I met two new canine friends, a 7-year-old Australian Cattle Dog, and a 1 1/2-year-old Portuguese Water Dog. We chased
each other, rumbled, and barked. I had a grand time with my new friends. Mommy has been away on quite a
bit of business travel lately. I do not like it when Daddy or Mommy is gone ... I know what is up, when I see one of
those black boxes with a handle and wheels come out of the closet. Sometimes they go to and return from the airport
on the same day, which I much prefer to their overnight trips. Thankfully, Mommy and Daddy never leave on a business
trip at the same time. Daddy and I have quite a big job when Mommy is gone, as we have to keep Mommy's many
outside plants and gardens alive. Fortunately, Mommy says we do a great job ... Whew!

Summer 2010 News: August 2010, continued When Daddy is gone, I step up my watchdog duties to protect Mommy, increasing my normal DEFCON 5 alert
level to DEFCON 2 or 1. During the night, I stay near Mommy's bed and, as a good watchdog should do, I keep her informed
about activity around the house. I provide several sharp barks when the neighborhood skunks pass through our back
yard (at about 12:45 AM), then provide several more barks when the neighborhood raccoons pass through our back yard (usually
at about 2:45 AM). If one of the local opossum families visits the backyard (usually around 4:00 AM), I provide a few
alert barks to let Mommy know that, too. Lastly, I alert Mommy to the arrival of the newspaper carrier delivering
the daily New York Times and Contra Costa Times (usually between 4:45 AM and 5:15 AM). I know Mommy
appreciates my alert notification system! I then take long naps throughout the day, to rest up for my watchdog
duties the next night. I'll check back in later and let you know how things are going. Thanks
for stopping by!
